Alpaca fiber is as soft as cashmere and stronger than wool. Alpacas  fleece

 comes in 22 natural colours, more natural colours than any other fiber

producing animal.

Alpaca are most closely related to the vicuña, a protected species belonging

 to the same genus as the llama and the Camel.

The alpacas lightweight and very robust coats protect them from the

extreme temperature differences between day and night. Alpacas are kept in

 herds that graze on the level heights of the Andes of southern Peru
